The VizAbility Project: Teens Maximizing Community Service

The VizAbility Project is about guiding students through the process of identifying, creating, capturing and maximizing their volunteering experience. While implementing their own project, they move into closer alignment with their unique talent, creativity and strengths within the context of community service.

One of teen’s biggest complaints about traditional education is that they don’t perceive aspects of it as being relevant. The VizAbility Project is intentionally designed to be very personal, highly relevant, with results that support the student's goals and what is important to them individually.
A teen's project follows an organic process that tends to unfold something like this:
  • clarity about: 1) what their unique service contribution is, 2) how it relates to them and their personal goals, and 3) how their talent and strengths support a self-expressive service project they design/create
  • researching, exploring, and selecting a best-fit partner non-profit
  • planning their strategy and project
  • leading/enrolling others in support and production of their project
  • creating (either on their own, or with their team) the platform for their project
  • advocating for the envisioned outcome of their project
  • along the way, capturing the story of their service project experience
  • celebrating the results!
